Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every weight above is the figure its manufacturer publishes; where a manufacturer publishes none, the table says so rather than borrowing a retailer's number.

The short answer

Very few makers build a blanket with a dedicated umbrella hole, and none of the manufacturers in our registry publishes one. The problem people are trying to solve — an umbrella pole and a blanket in the same spot without the blanket bunching or blowing — is better solved by a stakeable mat and an umbrella with a proper base.

Why we are not inventing a list

This page could easily have been eight products with confident descriptions. We checked the catalogs of the blanket and mat makers we trust — CGEAR, WildHorn, Matador, Nomadix — and none of them publishes a beach blanket with an umbrella hole. Rather than fill the page with marketplace listings we cannot verify, here is the problem and the setups that genuinely address it.

What the umbrella hole is for

Two things, and they need different answers:

  • Keeping the pole and the blanket from fighting. Without a hole, the pole either sits outside the blanket (so shade and blanket are offset) or pins the blanket down in a bunched ring.
  • Using the pole as an anchor. A blanket threaded over a pole is held at one point, which is better than nothing in a breeze.

The setup that works

  1. Use a mat with reinforced corner D-rings and stake it. Four anchored corners beat one pole through a hole, decisively.
  2. Set the umbrella just off the edge of the mat, with the canopy tilted so the shade lands where you are rather than where the pole is. The sun is not overhead for most of the day, so the pole and the shade do not want to be in the same place anyway.
  3. Use a proper ballast base rather than relying on the blanket to hold the pole. A blanket is not an anchor.
  4. If you want the pole through the middle, cut nothing. Overlap two smaller mats around the pole instead — and keep both stakeable.

The honest conclusion

Buy the best mat and the best-anchored umbrella separately, and position them rather than joining them. That is a less satisfying answer than a product recommendation, and it is the one that works. If a maker we trust releases a reinforced umbrella-hole blanket, this page will change.

#1 · The sand problem, solved properly

CGEAR Original Sand-Free Mat

The patented dual-layer weave that lets sand fall through and not back up — the original, and still the one the others copy.

Carry weightNot published per size
Packed sizeFolds; sold in S, M, L and XL
Size / capacityFour sizes; heavy-duty D-rings at the corners for staking
SetupUnroll and stake at the corners
How it holds downStakeable at reinforced D-ring corners; the weave does not act as a sail
UPF / materialsUV-stabilized polyethylene (CGEAR)

What it does well

  • The two-layer weave is a mechanism, not a marketing claim: sand passes down through it and cannot come back up
  • Liquids drain straight through, so a spilled drink is not a wet patch for the rest of the day
  • Reinforced D-rings let you stake it, which almost no beach blanket allows
  • CGEAR developed the technology for military use, which is where the UV stabilization and seam reinforcement come from

Where it falls short

  • No published weight for any size, on a product people carry a long way
  • A woven mat is firmer underfoot than a soft blanket — it is a floor, not bedding
  • Sizes sell out: CGEAR's own listings carry back-in-stock dates

#2 · Covering a group, packing to nothing

WildHorn Outfitters Sand Escape Beach Blanket

A large parachute-nylon blanket with a patented anchoring design that compresses into a pouch the size of a water bottle.

Carry weightNot published
Packed sizeCompresses into a small stuff pouch (WildHorn)
Size / capacitySized by WildHorn to fit a whole group
SetupShake out and anchor the corners
How it holds downWildHorn's patented design is specifically built so it will not blow away
UPF / materialsNot applicable

What it does well

  • Packs smaller than any mat here — this is the one that lives permanently in a beach bag
  • The corner anchoring is the patented part, and it is what separates this from a bedsheet
  • Large enough for a group, which is where per-person carry weight gets very good

Where it falls short

  • Thin parachute nylon: sand sits on top of it rather than falling through, unlike a CGEAR weave
  • No published weight or laid-flat dimensions
  • Little padding — it keeps you clean, not comfortable

#3 · An umbrella that stays put

beachBUB All-In-One Beach Umbrella System

An umbrella sold with its own ballast base, which is the only version of this product category that answers the safety problem.

Carry weightNot published as a total system weight
Packed sizeOversized 48 in carry bag with a padded shoulder strap (beachBUB)
Size / capacity7.5 ft canopy
SetupDig, seat the base, fill it; a sand scoop and Sand Gopher tool are included
How it holds downBuilt around the CPSC finding that a 7.5 ft umbrella needs 75 lb of resistance at the pole
UPF / materialsUPF 50+ (beachBUB)

What it does well

  • Ships as a system: umbrella, ballast base, carry bag, sand scoop and sand tool
  • beachBUB cites the Consumer Product Safety Commission's 75 lb resistance figure and designs to it, rather than selling you an anchor separately
  • Commercial-grade 1.5 mm wall aluminum pole and 10 mm fiberglass ribs

Where it falls short

  • A 48 in carry bag is a long thing to get into a car, let alone onto a plane
  • Costs more than a plain umbrella because you are buying the base you would have needed anyway

#4 · A lighter take on the same weave

CGEAR Sandlite Sand-Free Mat

The lighter Sandlite version of CGEAR's patented weave, aimed at yoga and stretching as much as sand.

Carry weightNot published
Packed sizeFolds into its carry form; sold in several sizes
Size / capacityMultiple sizes
SetupUnroll
How it holds downCGEAR describes the weave as virtually windproof, because air passes through rather than lifting it
UPF / materialsPolyester layers, UV resistant

What it does well

  • The same sand-falls-through mechanism in a lighter mat
  • Air passes through the weave, so it does not balloon the way a solid sheet does
  • Doubles as a stretching or yoga surface, which the heavier Original does less comfortably

Where it falls short

  • No published weight or dimensions per size
  • Lighter build than the Original, which is the trade for the weight

Questions people actually ask

+Do beach blankets with umbrella holes exist?
Rarely. None of the established mat and blanket makers we checked publishes one, which is why this page recommends a stakeable mat plus a properly anchored umbrella instead.
+Can I cut a hole in a beach blanket for an umbrella?
You can, and an unreinforced hole in a nylon sheet is where a tear starts. If you do it, reinforce the edge with webbing or a grommet.
+How do I stop my blanket blowing away with an umbrella on it?
Stake the blanket at its corners rather than using the umbrella pole as an anchor, and give the umbrella its own ballast base. See beach umbrella anchors.
