Reviews

Single-model breakdowns: published specifications, who each one suits, and what else to look at.

A beach tent pitched on sand

This section is for single-model breakdowns: everything published about one product, who it suits, and what else to look at. It is deliberately the slowest-growing part of the site, and this page explains why rather than pretending otherwise.

What a review means here, and what it does not

It does not mean we used the product. We have not, and no page on this site will ever say we did. A review here is a specifications-and-fit breakdown: what the manufacturer publishes, what it conspicuously does not, what the design implies about how it behaves, and which kind of buyer it is actually for.

That is a narrower thing than the word normally promises, and we would rather define it honestly than borrow a claim we have not earned. The reasoning behind that position is on the methodology page.

What we found when we looked

How much each maker in our registry publishes about its own products. This is the obstacle.

How much each maker in our registry publishes about its own products. This is the obstacle.

Read that table and the shape of this site becomes clear. Where a maker publishes properly, we can write a useful page. Where it does not, the most useful thing we can tell you is that the figures do not exist — which is what our comparison pages and roundups do instead.

Where the product detail lives in the meantime

Every product in our registry already has a full write-up inside the roundup it appears in: published specifications with the source named, what it does well, where it falls short, and a link to the manufacturer's own page. That is the same content a single-model review would carry, placed where it is most useful — next to its alternatives.

  • Beach tents — Sun Ninja, Neso, Pacific Breeze.
  • Cabanas — CoolCabana, Neso Gigante.
  • Umbrellas — beachBUB, AMMSUN, Sport-Brella.
  • Chairs — Helinox, Sun Ninja, Neso, Shibumi, Tommy Bahama.
  • Wagons — Mac Sports, CGEAR, Sekey, Rio.
  • Blankets and towels — CGEAR, WildHorn, Matador, Dock & Bay, Nomadix.

If you are deciding between two specific models

That is what the comparison section is for, and it is where this site is strongest. Nineteen head-to-heads covering brand against brand, format against format, and material against material — each one with a verdict in the first paragraph.

What will appear here

Single-model pages for the products people search by name, as and when each clears the bar: currently sold, confirmed, with specifications we can attribute. When one is published it will link back to every roundup and comparison the product appears in, so you can see it next to its alternatives rather than in isolation.

What goes here

This section is published as pages clear our sourcing bar, not before. Everything we add here has to be traceable to a source we can name. Until then, the links below are the closest existing answers on the site.
