Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every weight above is the figure its manufacturer publishes; where a manufacturer publishes none, the table says so rather than borrowing a retailer's number.
Wheels first, everything else second
A wheel sinks into sand when the pressure it applies exceeds what the sand can support. Pressure is load divided by contact area, which gives you two levers: carry less, or spread the load over more rubber. Since nobody carries less to the beach, wheel geometry is the entire story.
Two dimensions matter and they do different jobs. Width is what keeps you on top of dry sand, because it is the main driver of contact area. Diameter is what gets you over ruts, soft patches and the lip where the boardwalk meets the beach — a big wheel climbs an obstacle a small one digs into.
That is why the recommendations here start with wide-tread rubber wheels and end with balloon tires, and why a cheap wagon with narrow plastic wheels is genuinely unusable on dry sand at any price.
Empty weight is the spec people forget
You lift the wagon into the car twice a day, empty, and nobody thinks about that in the shop. The spread is large: Mac Sports publishes 16 lb for its Lightweight Collapsible, under 22 lb for the All-Terrain, 25 lb for the Xtender and 27.1 lb for the Push & Pull. CGEAR's own listing contradicts itself, printing both 21 lb and 24.25 lb in the same spec block.
| Wagon | Empty weight | Capacity | Folded | Wheels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mac Sports All-Terrain | Under 22 lb | 150 lb | Under 10 in | Large rubber, wide tread |
| Mac Sports Push & Pull | 27.1 lb | 300 lb | 32.3 x 23 x 8.3 in | Large |
| Mac Sports Lightweight | 16 lb | Not published | 30.1 x 19.7 x 7.9 in | All-terrain |
| Sekey balloon wagon | Not published | 600 lb (manual) | Not published | 9 in balloon, 220 lb each |
| CGEAR Sand-Free Wagon | 21 lb and 24.25 lb, both printed | 150 lb | About a folding chair | Four grooved |
| Mac Sports Xtender XL | 25 lb | 150 lb | Under 8 in wide | All-terrain |

Push or pull?
Dragging a loaded wagon through dry sand loads your shoulders and lower back and gives you no leverage. Pushing lets you use your legs and body weight, which is the difference between difficult and straightforward on an uphill stretch of soft sand. Mac Sports' Push & Pull converts between the two, which is why it carries 300 lb against the standard model's 150 lb and why it is the heaviest wagon here at 27.1 lb.
If your beach access is a flat boardwalk and fifty yards of firm sand, a pull handle is fine. If it is a dune path, buy the push handle.
The sand-in-the-wagon problem
Every wagon comes home full of sand. CGEAR is the only maker addressing it structurally, with the same patented dual-weave floor used in its sand-free mats — sand falls through the base and does not come back up. If you are tired of hoovering a car boot, that single feature is the reason to pay more.
Folded size, and whether it fits your car
Mac Sports publishes folded dimensions for everything it makes, which is unusually good practice: under 10 in for the All-Terrain, 7.9 in deep for the Lightweight, just under 8 in wide for the Xtender. Measure the gap behind your rear seats before buying, particularly if the cooler and a 3 ft cabana are going in alongside it.

Category photo#1 · The default soft-sand wagon
Mac Sports All-Terrain Beach Wagon
Wide-tread rubber wheels, 150 lb capacity and under 22 lb empty — the wagon most beach days actually need.
| Carry weight | Under 22 lb (Mac Sports) |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Folds to under 10 in (Mac Sports) |
| Size / capacity | 37 x 21 x 25 in open; 150 lb capacity |
| Setup | Pull the frame open; no assembly |
| How it holds down | Not applicable |
| UPF / materials | 600D polyester, mildew and UV resistant (Mac Sports) |
What it does well
- Large rubber wheels with wide treads — width is what keeps a wagon on top of dry sand
- Folds under 10 in, so it goes in a car with the cooler, not instead of it
- 150 lb capacity covers a full family load with margin
- Mac Sports publishes open dimensions, folded size, capacity and weight, which most wagon brands do not
Where it falls short
- Under 22 lb is still 22 lb to lift in and out of a car
- Pull handle only — the push-and-pull model is a separate product

Mac Sports Push & Pull Wagon
300 lb capacity and a handle you can push instead of drag — the difference that matters uphill in sand.
| Carry weight | 27.1 lb (Mac Sports) |
|---|---|
| Packed size | 32.3 x 23 x 8.3 in folded (Mac Sports) |
| Size / capacity | 44.9 x 23 x 38.6 in open; 300 lb capacity |
| Setup | Open the frame; the handle converts between push and pull |
| How it holds down | Not applicable |
| UPF / materials | Not published |
What it does well
- 300 lb is double the standard All-Terrain's capacity
- Pushing uses your legs; dragging uses your shoulders. Over soft sand that is the whole game
- Deepest interior here at 31 x 17.8 x 13.5 in
Where it falls short
- 27.1 lb empty — the heaviest wagon in this registry
- 44.9 in long open, which needs a real car boot

Category photo#3 · Lifting it into the car alone
Mac Sports Lightweight Collapsible All-Terrain Beach Wagon
16 lb empty, which is six pounds less than the All-Terrain and the whole reason to choose it.
| Carry weight | 16 lb (Mac Sports) |
|---|---|
| Packed size | 30.1 x 19.7 x 7.9 in folded (Mac Sports) |
| Size / capacity | 32.3 x 19.3 x 22 in open; 27.5 x 17 x 10 in interior |
| Setup | Open and go |
| How it holds down | Not applicable |
| UPF / materials | Not published |
What it does well
- 16 lb is the lightest wagon in this registry, and you feel it at the car
- Folds to 7.9 in deep
- Mac Sports publishes open, folded AND interior dimensions
Where it falls short
- Mac Sports states plainly that it is not made to transport children — take that literally
- Smaller interior than the All-Terrain, and Mac Sports publishes no capacity figure for it

Category photo#4 · Genuinely deep, dry, soft sand
Sekey Heavy Duty Beach Wagon with 9 in Balloon Wheels
The only balloon-tire wagon here whose maker publishes real numbers: 600 lb load, 200 L, and a tire pressure spec.
| Carry weight | Sekey does not publish an empty weight |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Folds; no folded dimensions published |
| Size / capacity | 600 lb maximum load, 200 L capacity (Sekey manual) |
| Setup | Unfold; inflate the balloon wheels to spec before first use |
| How it holds down | Not applicable |
| UPF / materials | Not published |
What it does well
- 600 lb load and 220 lb per wheel, published in Sekey's own manual rather than a seller's bullet point
- Sekey publishes the tire pressure — 0.15-0.20 BAR, roughly 2.2-2.9 PSI — which is the number that decides whether balloon tires work at all
- Low-pressure balloon wheels spread load over a wide contact patch, which is the physics of floating instead of plowing
Where it falls short
- No published empty weight, and balloon-tire wagons are the heaviest kind
- Sellers describe the tires as both 9 in diameter and 9 in wide; the manual settles the load figures but not the geometry
- Pneumatic tires need checking and occasionally pumping — a maintenance item a solid wheel does not have

Category photo#5 · Not bringing the beach home
CGEAR Sand-Free Beach Wagon
A wagon with CGEAR's patented dual-weave floor, so sand falls out through the base instead of riding home in the car.
| Carry weight | CGEAR's own listing gives both 21 lb and 24.25 lb in the same spec block |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Folds to about the size of a folding chair (CGEAR) |
| Size / capacity | 35 x 20 x 44 in; supports up to 150 lb |
| Setup | Folds open and shut with a pull tab |
| How it holds down | Not applicable |
| UPF / materials | Not published |
What it does well
- The dual-weave floor is the only real answer to sand in the wagon, and CGEAR holds the patent on it
- Non-absorbent surface, so spills drain rather than pool
- Adjustable handle that locks out of the way
Where it falls short
- CGEAR's own spec block contradicts itself on the weight — 21 lb and 24.25 lb, both printed
- Four grooved wheels, not balloon tires: it handles mixed terrain rather than specializing in deep dry sand

Category photo#6 · Long items — canopies, poles, umbrellas
Mac Sports Xtender Wagon XL
52.25 in of load length, which is the only wagon here a folded beach umbrella lies flat in.
| Carry weight | 25 lb (Mac Sports) |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Folds to just under 8 in wide (Mac Sports) |
| Size / capacity | 52.25 in overall length; 150 lb capacity, 30% more room than the standard wagon |
| Setup | Open and extend |
| How it holds down | Not applicable |
| UPF / materials | 600D polyester, mildew and UV resistant |
What it does well
- Mac Sports specifically cites canopies, coolers and sun umbrellas as the reason for the length
- 30% more interior room than a standard wagon for 3 lb more weight
- Still folds under 8 in wide
Where it falls short
- Same 150 lb capacity as the much shorter All-Terrain — this buys length, not strength
- 52 in is awkward on a narrow beach path
