Dock & Bay vs Nomadix Beach Towel
One brand publishes its size and weight and is built to pack small. The other is built to be the only towel you own. That is a different product, not a worse one.

Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every weight above is the figure its manufacturer publishes; where a manufacturer publishes none, the table says so rather than borrowing a retailer's number.
The short answer

Published figures only. An empty cell means the maker does not publish it.
Dock & Bay runs an actual size-and-weight guide, which almost nobody in this category does, and it is the reason that towel appears at the top of so many of our pages. It is not that the towel is magic. It is that you can plan a carry-on around a published figure and you cannot plan one around "packs small".
In fairness to Dock & Bay, retailer listings for the same towel disagree on both the weight (485 g to 508 g) and how much faster than cotton it dries. We quote the brand's own 500 g.
They are optimized for different failures
A Dock & Bay is built around one failure: a wet cotton towel is heavy, bulky and still damp at the end of the day. Thin flat-woven microfiber fixes all three, and the cost is that it feels like microfiber.
A Nomadix is built around a different failure: owning a beach towel, a gym towel, a yoga towel and a travel towel. It is a thicker, grippier, double-sided sheet made from recycled material, and the argument for it is that you stop buying the other three. It also stays where you put it on a lounger, which a slippery microfiber sheet does not.
Choose Dock & Bay if
- You are flying, and packed size is the constraint
- You want a published weight and size before you buy
- You carry several towels for a family and the volume compounds
- You want the carry pouch included
Choose Nomadix if
- You want one towel for the beach, the gym and travel
- Recycled material matters to you
- You want grip on a lounger rather than a slippery sheet
- You would rather have a thicker towel than the smallest possible one
The two other options worth knowing
If packed size is everything, the Matador NanoDry is the more extreme version of the Dock & Bay argument: nanofiber packs smaller than microfiber at the same towel area, and it has a zip pocket, which is a genuinely good idea in a beach towel. Matador publishes no weight or laid-flat size for the beach version, so you are buying the brand's reputation for packability rather than a figure.
If you simply do not like synthetic towels, the Neso Beach Towel is oversized OEKO-TEX certified cotton. It is plush and absorbent in a way no quick-dry towel manages, and it packs like cotton — which is to say not small, and it stays wet far longer. That is the honest trade. The full field is in beach towels, ranked, and the fabric argument in microfiber vs Turkish cotton.
One care note that applies to both
- No fabric softener, ever. It coats synthetic fibers and destroys both absorbency and drying speed. This is the single commonest way a good quick-dry towel is ruined, and a hot wash usually recovers one.
- Dry it open, not folded in a bag. Both are thin enough to dry in minutes if you give them air, and both will smell if you do not.
Every pick in full
Category photo#1 · A full-size towel that packs like a sweater
Dock & Bay Quick Dry Towel, Extra Large
78 x 35 in of towel at 500 g, which is the clearest weight-to-size figure any towel brand here publishes.
| Carry weight | 500 g / 1.1 lb (Dock & Bay size guide) |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Packs down to roughly the size of a book; pouch around 11 x 6 in per retailer listings |
| Size / capacity | 200 x 90 cm / 78 x 35 in |
| Setup | Not applicable |
| How it holds down | Light — weight it down or it will travel |
| UPF / materials | Not applicable |
What it does well
- Dock & Bay publishes an actual size-and-weight guide, which almost no towel brand does
- 78 x 35 in covers a sun lounger, at 1.1 lb
- Comes with its own pouch rather than needing a bag
Where it falls short
- Retailer listings disagree on both the weight (485 g to 508 g) and how fast it dries (twice or three times cotton)
- Microfiber feels like microfiber: quick-drying, not plush

Category photo#2 · One towel for everything
Nomadix Original Towel
A recycled-fiber towel built to be the only one you own — beach, gym, yoga mat and travel.
| Carry weight | Not published |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Rolls small; no published packed size |
| Size / capacity | Full size; Nomadix also sells a 54 x 30 in Ultralight |
| Setup | Not applicable |
| How it holds down | Light |
| UPF / materials | Not applicable |
What it does well
- Made from recycled material, and sold on the honest argument of owning fewer things
- The Ultralight sibling has a published 54 x 30 in size if you want a figure before you buy
- Grips a lounger better than a slippery microfiber sheet
Where it falls short
- No published weight or size for the Original itself
- Thinner than a cotton beach towel, which is the point and also the complaint

Category photo#3 · Flying with a beach towel
Matador NanoDry Packable Beach Towel
A full-size nanofiber beach towel with a zip pocket, built to pack smaller than anything cotton.
| Carry weight | Not published |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Packs small for travel; the smaller NanoDry towels ship in a silicone case |
| Size / capacity | Full-sized beach towel |
| Setup | Not applicable |
| How it holds down | Very light |
| UPF / materials | Not applicable |
What it does well
- A zip pocket in a beach towel is a genuinely good idea — keys and a phone stay with you
- Nanofiber packs smaller than microfiber at the same towel area
- Matador's smaller NanoDry towels absorb twice their weight, per the brand
Where it falls short
- No published weight or laid-flat size for the beach version
- Nanofiber is the least towel-like fabric here to the touch

Category photo#4 · People who want an actual cotton towel
Neso Beach Towel
An oversized OEKO-TEX certified cotton towel, for everyone unconvinced by microfiber.
| Carry weight | Not published |
|---|---|
| Packed size | Cotton — packs like cotton, which is to say not small |
| Size / capacity | Oversized; exact dimensions not published |
| Setup | Not applicable |
| How it holds down | Heavy enough to stay where you put it |
| UPF / materials | Not applicable |
What it does well
- 100% Pakistani cotton, OEKO-TEX certified — the certification is published, which is unusual
- Plush and absorbent in a way no quick-dry towel manages
- A woven hanger tag, so it dries properly instead of staying damp in a bag
Where it falls short
- Cotton is the wrong answer if packed size is your constraint
- Stays wet far longer than any microfiber towel here
